There are few fixtures on the Rangers calendar than this. Aberdeen at Ibrox. Yes they have been in a torrid tun of form, their incredibly fast start, has came to an almighty halt having not won in their last 11 league games and only mustering 4 draws. But this is Aberdeen and we all know they’ll be desperate to beat us so expect a different animal come Wednesday night.
Jimmy Thelin sets his Dons up in the 4-2-3–1 and lately has been looking to bait teams in and play through them. He’s had his own injury issues but his current run is hard to defend.
With Mitov still injured Doohan will have the gloves. Devlin with take the right back position, he’s got a strong engine, he’s always to get forward but this also leave himself slightly open in behind. New signing and Latvia captain Tobers will partner possobly Heltne Nilsen due to injuries. McGarry, who’s been somewhat suspect but had a solid showing against Hearts, will have the left back berth due to Mackenzie having fallen out of favour due to his contract situation. Dogged Shinnie will anchor and skipper the side next to the consistent Palaversa. Clarkson or McGrath will provide the creativity from the 10. They’ll most likely be flanked by the impressive Keskinen and new signing Okkels. Kevin Nesbit, always a threat, will lead the line.
New full back signing Alexander Jensen, a young player who we at the journal rate very highly, may feature. Another new signing and potential starter is Spurs loanee Alfie Dorrington, Thelin unlike Clement isn’t shy in chucking his new recruits straight in.
The Aberdeen boss said this of his team -
"I didn't expect to not lose in 11 games and I didn't expect not to win in 10 games so we have to find the balance there, try to get better, keep believing in what we're doing and don't lose sight of the long term.
"You need to try to hide your weakness and show more of your strengths. We have some parts that we have to improve as a team and as a collective."
As for us? Well we all know ibrox hasn’t been the issue, it’s been away from home. That being said some of the home performances have been somewhat flat at home while we still got the job done games seem to just drift by. We cannot afford to be flat Wednesday evening, as I said Aberdeen will no doubt play like a team possessed for this one. This is a huge match and it always has been and it’s one where we need to stand up and be counted if we want to win. Let’s get the job done Rangers.
